KCC's first healthcare Hackathon

The Kowloon Central Cluster (KCC) has co-organised the Hackathon with the Hong Kong Competence Education Foundation for the first time, attracting over 60 students from 18 secondary schools across Hong Kong and Macau. Through visits to the Community Rehabilitation Service Support Centre and nursing simulation laboratory, students gained an in-depth understanding of hospital operations. They also explored how to leverage artificial intelligence (AI) to reduce the administrative workloads of healthcare staff, optimise patient experiences, or enhance post-discharge rehabilitation progress. Winners are offered internship opportunities with the Cluster Information Technology Division.

Dr Calvin Mak, Cluster Coordinator of Information Technology and Information Systems of KCC, states, "innovative technology can optimise workflows and effectively relieve pressure on frontline staff. We hope this event enhances public and staff awareness of healthcare innovation."

Ultimately, Lock Tao Secondary School won the championship with its mobile app. The app utilises a smartphone camera and AI to detect and assess patients' rehabilitation exercise postures in real-time. Team leader Cheng Yau-hei (centre) shares that the event not only deepened her understanding of hospitals but also solidified her determination to pursue a career in allied health.
