Members of the Committee on Critical Incident Psychological Services and representatives of CIST members from seven clusters rapped about the characteristics of each team on the stage.

Positive energy fills Psychological Care Carnival

To celebrate 15th Anniversary of Oasis – the Psychological Care Carnival cum CIST (Critical Incident Support Teams) Appreciation Ceremony was held in early September. Over 600 guests and HA staff members attended the ceremony. Participants can know more about positive psychology from game booths, talks and workshops and learn how to maintain work-life balance and pass positive energy to people around them.

Professor Joseph Sung, Vice Chancellor and President of The Chinese University of Hong Kong inaugurated the event with his talk themed ’looking through things from multiple perspectives’. He told the audience that he fell in love with jogging in recent years. Exercising could not only help release stress but also clear up thoughts, leading to positive thinking and boost in confidence. “It is reassuring when I surpassed many youngsters who appeared out of breath half way through the marathon race. At my age, I don’t necessarily lose out.” Due to enormous stress he experienced being the Vice Chancellor of a leading university, he learnt from Master Hsing Yun that ‘letting go’ is the key to alleviating stress related to work.

HA staff can find out more about positive psychology at various game booths.

Another speaker Dr Sandra Tsang, Associate Professor of Social Work and Social Administration from The University of Hong Kong, shared with us effective ways to communicate with children. She suggested that parents should handle stress upon the start of a new term with knowledge, strategies and attitude. “Parents should understand that it takes time for their children to adapt to teachers, classmates and the new learning environment. They should not overreact. And if they find their children under stress, they had better to listen to their kids and show tender loving care and support. Preparing their children’s favorite dishes is a welcoming act to celebrate the beginning of a new term and also a bonus in enhancing parent‑children connection.”

Established in 2002, Oasis has been providing psychological services to HA staff.
