“I have the right to choose.”
Many people consider getting a university degree, buying a flat, getting married and having a lovely family the most important events in life. Death is usually not on the list. It seems like a distant subject, and is not discussed often. However, in this issue, we will explore the topic of palliative care, which highlights that death is absolutely a ‘big event’ in life. Patients should have the right to participate in their own clinical care plan, which is not only led by doctors or family members. People around patients having terminal illness should understand their needs and respect their wills. Preparing one’s departure in a positive manner allows a peaceful and dignified last journey.
In addition, it is time to get a seasonal influenza vaccination in October to protect yourselves and people around you (page 20).
