Elderly Council helps regain dignity and confidence
To help elders with depression adapt to a normal social life, PGACC deploys the concept of psychological rehabilitation model by setting up the Elderly Council in April 2011. The council advocates persons active participating in their recovery through designing collaborative activities with the healthcare team. The committees and members hold regular meetings, where service users can put up their ideas for discussion and suggest a comprehensive recovery plan to enhance the diversity of activities in the centre. The notion of rehabilitation is about allowing persons-in-recovery to voice out their opinions, regain freedom of choice and live a fuller life. The treatment focus is no longer on symptom alleviation alone.
The Elderly Council comprises chairperson, vice-chairperson, secretary and general affair committee. Meetings are called twice a year. All members are serious about the meetings that they prepare the agenda and dress up on the meeting day. During the meeting, members contribute their views and opinions with a hope of enhancing services for all users.
