舌尖上的人情味

舌尖上的人情味

30多歲的阿麗確診患舌癌,即將開始俗稱電療的放射治療。為了讓她有更充足的準備迎接未來的挑戰,我們安排她參加「口腔護理教育計劃」,了解治療的相關事項,例如治療的過程、生活注意須知等。

第一課安排在治療開始前,她獨自來到腫瘤科專科門診診所,沉默寡言,眉宇間流露著憂心。我安撫她說:「其實你十分年輕,又屬初期病患,只要打理得好,康復進度是理想的。」阿麗說:「其實我不年輕,我是一子之母了。」她不願透露太多,話題轉回電療須知。我解釋給她聽,接受電療後,舌頭會有火燙的感覺,建議她可在家中準備雪糕及豆腐花等冰凍食品,需要時進食以紓緩舌頭不適。但她說,家裡根本沒有冰箱。我試著安撫她說:「不要緊,添置冰箱的事可慢慢解決,你可到便利店買冰凍小吃。」

第二次與阿麗見面,她的笑容多了,較上次健談。相比自己的病情,她更擔心兒子是否理解和接受媽媽患上頑疾。原來她是一名單親媽媽,居於元朗約80平方呎的劏房,五歲大的兒子暫由寄養家庭照顧。阿麗的姐姐亦患有癌症,正接受標靶治療,哥哥則長居國內,所以照顧年邁雙親的責任亦落在她身上。那時,我們能夠做到的是給予她無限的鼓勵與支持,並轉介她至「兒童及家庭哀傷輔導中心」,協助她和家人勇敢面對眼前的挑戰,並建議她到癌協服務中心申請緊急援助服務及資源。

癌症的治療過程需時,病患的憂心和恐懼往往源自病情的不確定和對家人的牽掛。醫護人員是病人的同行者,多走一步,與病人多談幾句加深彼此了解,讓他們多了解各種社會資源,有助增加他們對醫護團隊的信任、安全感與面對疾病的信心。

阿麗最後順利完成了33次電療。她在治療後兩星期來到專科門診診所上最後一課。這次她不再孤身一人,而是帶著兒子來跟我們道謝。
