Sending love across in 10 minutes
“I…LOVE…YOU…” said Uncle Kan, who has not met his family for more than two months, to his beloved wife on a mobile phone.
“Even though I cannot pay you a visit, I am perfectly content to see you through the screen,” she answered merrily. On White Day, which coincidentally, was also the couple’s 41st anniversary, Uncle Kan expressed his love to his wife despite being hospitalised in the infirmary ward of Tung Wah Hospital.
Owing to the development of the pandemic, Emergency Response Level has been activated in public hospitals with visits suspended. Keeping visitors away may cause the patients to feel lonely and disappointed, and their family could not be any less worried. In this regard, starting from early February, the Patient Resource Centre, Medical Social Service and Nursing Department of Tung Wah Hospital have collaboratively arranged virtual visits with video calls for over 200 patients who need to chat with their families.
Billy Tsang, the Service Coordinator of Patient Resource Centre, expresses that during the 10-minute video call, their medical social workers and nurses would provide assistance beside the patient. Through meeting their beloved family or pets, it is hoped that the patient can be motivated to fight their disease. Arranging video call is a little extra effort that brings love and encouragement to the bedside.
