Introduction
The New Territories East Cluster was established in 2001. It serves the districts of Shatin, Tai Po and North District, which have a population of around 1.31 million. There are seven hospitals in the cluster, namely Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital, Bradbury Hospice, Cheshire Home, Shatin, North District Hospital, Prince of Wales Hospital, Shatin Hospital and Tai Po Hospital, providing a wide range of acute, convalescent, rehabilitation, infirmary and ambulatory care services to the local population. The cluster also operates 10 General Out-patient Clinics which deliver primary care services to the community. The key roles of each hospital are listed below:
- Prince of Wales Hospital – a major acute regional hospital providing secondary and tertiary inpatient and ambulatory care services. It also serves as a teaching hospital for the Faculty of Medicine of the Chinese University of Hong Kong
- Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital – an acute general hospital in Tai Po providing secondary inpatient and ambulatory care services
- North District Hospital – an acute general hospital in North District providing secondary inpatient and ambulatory care services
- Tai Po Hospital – an extended care hospital providing convalescent and rehabilitation support to patients from AHNH and NDH as well as psychiatric inpatient care
- Shatin Hospital – an extended care hospital providing convalescent and rehabilitation support to patients from PWH as well as psychiatric inpatient care
- Cheshire Home, Shatin – an extended care hospital providing infirmary care for patients from the Central Infirmary Waiting List and the severely disabled
- Bradbury Hospice – a specialised palliative care centre providing inpatient and community outreach hospice services
