Birth of CNS: Woman living in a bathtub
In 1967, Dr Ding Lik-kiu, Medical Director of Yang Memorial Social Service Centre, encountered a hemiplegic woman who suffered from incontinence. Not knowing how to take care of her properly, her family put her into a bathtub for easy care. Later on, her family decided to migrate overseas and begged Dr Ding to arrange a place for her. Dr Ding sympathised with the patient and her family and realised the importance of home care. He thus hit on the idea of training nurses to provide care services at the patient’s home. That was the beginning of CNS.
