A multitasker in Transportation Team
Chan Siu-mui, May
Transport Supervisor
United Christian Hospital
“I have been working in Transportation Team for over 20 years. It’s like running my own business. For this reason, I always remind my colleagues to work wholeheartedly because for any failures to complete the assignment could damage our reputation.” That is how May Chan, the star of the Transportation Team, describes her work.
May started her career as a frontline workman and was later promoted to a Transport supervisor, who is responsible for the supervision of transportation arrangement in the hospital. Regardless of what she needs to deliver, for example, a specimen, a document, a chair, a patient, or a deceased body, she remains professional and dedicated as ever. She always reminds her colleagues that there is little margin of error for every delivery because even a mistaken document can cause significant impact on patients.
Working and managing in a fast paced environment, she strives to learn and make use of the Automatic Dispatch System to enhance work efficiency. In addition, she is also adored for not being petty-minded, for example, when her colleague was unable to take up the duty on time during the arrival of super typhoon Mangkhut, she had no hesitation in staying at the hospital and assign colleagues to deliver extra folding beds, coverlets, daily necessities, sandbags, in order to maintain normal operation at the hospital amid the stormy weather.
Honoured as the star of Transportation Team, May is the backbone of the team, the right-hand man of the department head, the mentor of newcomers, a keen listener, as well as a bridge between frontline staff, department head and different departments. May and her teammates are now exploring faster and more secure delivery service to dovetail with the hospital’s expansion project and development into a smart hospital.
