Dream team to orchestrate the prestigious annual HA Convention

To enhance service quality and develop a stronger clinical acumen, our healthcare professionals are always keen to learn up-to-date knowledge. The annual Hospital Authority Convention has played a crucial role in providing a platform for HA staff and local and international experts to share their knowledge and insights. In this two-day Convention, our staff could acquire the latest development of various clinical topics such as specialty treatments, medical safety, technological application.

The Convention has been held in May annually since 1993. The current team took over the project in 2011 and has since held over 450 sessions that attracted more than 10,000 participants. From planning to execution, the two-day Convention mobilises more than a hundred staff from the Head Office and hospitals. The team starts the preparation as early as a year prior to the event. Apart from planning for the scientific programme, the team also coordinates relevant logistics and onsite support, including liaison with local and overseas speakers as well as exhibitors, organisation of opening ceremony and performance, planning of programme rundown, set-up for the venue, production of both e-version and printed programme book, preparation of audio and video equipment and so on.

The current team led by the Head Office Administration Department relies on the collaboration of different departments and support from many departmental helpers. Banny Wong, Senior Manager (Administration), the team leader expresses, “We are grateful for the commitment and teamwork of colleagues from various disciplines. Only with their contribution, the event could be successfully held.” He carries on, “Even though we work in different positions and disciplines, we work as a team and devote ourselves to non-specialised field by taking up various roles, such as photographers, first aid team, emcee, venue manager, on the event days to ensure the smooth running of the Convention.”

He adds that the team also strives to keep pace with the times. The introduction of the mobile application in 2012, for instance, allows participants to record their attendance, check the programme schedule and view the abstract of presentations using their mobile devices. The application updates yearly while both the website and mobile application make use of cloud technology, enabling efficient updates of information. They hope to explore the possibility of online participation of the conference for a more flexible arrangement in the future. Over the years, the Convention has been winning acclaims of participants and considered comparable to the standard of international conferences. It also provides valuable learning and sharing opportunities to the participants, as well as offering the team members an opportunity of collaboration.
