Develop online system to enable easier nursing admission

Many people consider administrative work boring and pen-pushing, however, it can be very challenging if you are open to new ideas. Taking Ashley Chu, a winner of the Young Achiever Award, as an example, she developed a new e-application system for nursing schools to streamline the work process, benefiting both her colleagues and the nursing students.
Since Ashley joined the Hospital Authority in 2005, she has played a supportive role with major responsibilities in administrative and clerical tasks. She joined the nursing department in 2014, and has worked there up until now. Her biggest challenge came last year when she worked with HA’s nursing schools and IT colleagues to set up a new online system for DSE students to apply for nursing programmes in just one month.
Every year, an average of 1,500 applications in paper form is received, data of which are inputted manually by staff. After the online application system came into use, not only has it brought greater convenience to applicants, but has also effectively streamlined the workflow in handling applications by saving time for data entry and retrieval, as well as avoiding human errors. Ashley says that such experience was a great opportunity for her to think out of the box from different perspectives, and to learn new work aspect through collaboration with other departments. All these have favoured her career planning.
She hopes that her experience can encourage her colleagues to break out of their comfort zone. With a desire for change, everyone can get out of your routines!
