A martial art born in warfare
The history of Muay Thai dates back hundreds of years and originated in warfare. The name ‘art of eight limbs’ means the sport is characterised by the use of fists, elbows, knees, and shins. Fighters score points by aiming at different body parts, not only the head. Before a battle begins, fighters put on headbands and armbands and dance in the ring to pay respect to their teachers and to pray for divine blessings.
