IDENTIFICATION FEATURES

Herbaceous climbers. Stems and branchlets slender, adpressed pubescent. Leaves odd-pinnate; leaflets 5–7(–9), 2.5–5 × 1.5–3.5 cm. Flowers large, solitary, axillary; bracteoles 5–8 mm in diameter. Calyx 1.5–2 cm long, 5-toothed. Corolla blue, pink, white, up to 5.5 cm long. Stamens diadelphous. Pods 5–11 × 1 cm, beaked, 6–10-seeded. Seeds 6 × 4 mm, black.7

MEDICINAL USES

Seeds used in TCM: relieve pain; for external use only. In addition, in India, roots have been used in folk medicine with laxative and diuretic properties.2,8,9
