Erect shrubs, up to 2 m tall, with clear sap. Leaves in whorls of 3–5; leaf blades 5–14 × 2–4 cm, lateral veins of leaves elevated abaxially. Flowers 4–6 cm long; corolla yellow, tubes narrowly funnelform, distinctly inflated at base. Capsules about 3 cm in diameter, sharp spiny. Seeds about 2 × 1.5 cm.9
