The Hospital Authority (“HA”) supports and encourages staff to continue breastfeeding upon returning to work after child delivery. The HA’s Breastfeeding Friendly Workplace Policy recommends lactation breaks be allowed up to one year after childbirth, with two 30-minute lactation breaks or an hour in total in a work day. While maintaining normal service operation is of the Hospital’s first priority, lactation breaks will be facilitated as practicable as possible.

  1. All staff will be informed about the Hospital Authority’s “Breastfeeding-Friendly Workplace Policy” during their orientation program.
  2. Educational material will be provided to employees on how to continue breastfeeding after returning to work.
  3. Facilities for expression and storage of breastmilk are provided in the workplace.
  4. Employees who need to express breastmilk during working hours should approach their supervisors to work out an appropriate arrangement.
  5. All other staff members would support their colleagues to continue breastfeeding by adopting a positive and accommodating attitude.
