Background
Castle Peak Hospital (CPH), officially opened in 1961, is a psychiatric hospital with the longest history in Hong Kong. It provides to the local population a range of comprehensive psychiatric treatments and services, including community mental health services and mental health education.
Services
CPH is one of the hospitals under the management of the New Territories West Cluster of Hospital Authority. It provides general psychiatric admissions for the residents of Tuen Mun, Yuen Long and Tin Shui Wai districts. Patients can be admitted either as voluntary or involuntary patients under the Mental Health Ordinance. It also provides specialist out-patient services and day hospital services at the Tuen Mun Mental Health Centre. Consultation-liaison services are provided to other hospitals within the cluster.
Putting emphasis on patient-centred care, specialists in the hospital ensure that patients are provided with comprehensive physical, psychological and social aspects of care. Treatment and care are provided through multi-disciplinary teams, which consist of doctors, nurses, clinical psychologists, social workers, occupational therapists, pharmacists, physiotherapists, dietitians, etc. Multi-disciplinary mental health specialist care teams provide every patient with professional assessment and personalised treatment, taking hospital and community care as being complementary to one another. All types of modern psychiatric treatment are available, including drugs, psychological forms of treatment, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, different types of psycho-social rehabilitation programmes, electro-convulsive treatment, social skills training and various kinds of rehabilitation exercises.
The existing psychiatric services include:
- General Psychiatric Service
