Prosthetic and Orthotic Service

Introduction

We are dedicated to provide prosthetic and orthotic service for in-patients in Siu Lam Hospital.

Prosthetist & Orthotist is one of the allied health professions and is a discipline that advances knowledge in bioengineering and health science in order to improve the quality of life of our patients.

Prosthetics is the technology using artificial devices to restore the function and appearance of a lost body part, so that patient can resume their daily activities.

Orthotics is concerned with the design, development, fitting and manufacturing of orthoses, which are devices that support, correct or accommodate musculoskeletal deformities and/or abnormalities of the human body.

Our aim is: 'To provide the seamless patient-centered prosthetic and orthotic care to our patients. To support and help people to stay healthy in the community.'

Scope of Service

The service provided for in-patients includes:

1. Orthotic service
   
2. Sitting and assistive device design and fabrication
   
3. Staff and carers training in orthosis and prosthesis application
