Introduction

About Us

Pharmacy service at QEH has evolved from the traditional role of drug supply to a fundamental aspect of total patient care. The Department of Pharmacy operates 24 hours a day throughout the year and is responsible for the hospital’s pharmaceutical procurement, comprehensive dispensing and drug information service.

Besides pioneering a Computerized Automatic Refill System in the wards, we have made full use of information technology and designed computer programmes to ensure correct medicine labelling, safe drug pre-packaging and appropriate use of antibiotic combinations. The Department was awarded the QEH Outstanding Team Award in 2008 for developing the electronic-formulary that provides up-to-date information on drugs and their usage and availability to both doctors and nurses across the cluster network.

Partnering with doctors, the Department runs a drug compliance clinic providing regular feedbacks to doctors regarding modification of drug therapy regimes in order to improve patient compliance to treatment. New initiatives that benefit patients, nurses and doctors as QEH include pharmacist-led clinics and drug information kiosks.

Reaching out to the community, our pharmacists often participate in health education programs for patients and are members of two multi-disciplinary teams, namely the Myocardial Infarction Rehabilitation Program Team and the Heart Failure Patient Care Team.
