I wish to extend my warmest welcome to all attendees of the Hospital Authority Convention 2016. Now

firmly established as Hong Kong’s flagship healthcare event, the Convention offers medical practitioners,
administrators and academics a valuable opportunity to share knowledge about modern healthcare services
and to establish connections with other professionals from around the world.
The evolving needs and expectations of patients and other stakeholders in medical services continue to
create new challenges for healthcare providers. Over the past two decades, the HA Convention has played a
key role in helping to promote best practices and new advancements in healthcare treatments and services,
and in keeping medical workers abreast of the latest developments in clinical research and technological
support.
In celebration of HA marking its 25th anniversary in 2016, the scientific programme at this year’s Convention
puts special emphasis on the Authority’s core values of People-centred Care, Professional Service,
Committed Staff and Teamwork. We are delighted to have some 100 distinguished overseas and local
speakers lined up to share their insights and interact with delegates in over 50 sessions. Special Topic
seminars will provide opportunities for discussion on issues such as palliative care, telemedicine, hospital
design and China healthcare, while Masterclasses will provide practical learning experiences in areas
including metabolic screening, emergency medicine and simulation training.
I wish to convey my heartfelt appreciation to the Organising Committee, Scientific Programme Committee
and Convention Management Committee for their dedication and drive in working to ensure that this large-
scale event is an enriching experience for all attendees. I am also thankful to the Convention Secretariat for
its tireless efforts to ensure that the Convention continues to achieve its objectives.
I wish all attendees a fruitful experience and our guests from overseas an enjoyable stay in Hong Kong. I
am certain that the knowledge and contacts you acquire at this year’s Convention will help you scale new
heights in your quest for medical excellence in the years ahead.
