HOSPITAL AUTHORITY CONVENTION 2016 Message from
Chairman
Hospital Authority, Hong Kong
It is my great pleasure to welcome all attendees to the Hospital Authority Convention 2016.
This year is a special one, as it marks the 25th anniversary of HA’s establishment. In looking back on the past
quarter of a century and HA’s impressive development, I am struck by one consistent and enduring factor –
the dedication and extraordinary professionalism of HA staff. I wish to take this opportunity to pay tribute
to all colleagues who have contributed to HA’s well-earned reputation for healthcare excellence over the
past 25 years. Due in large part to their unwavering commitment and support, HA has continued to go from
strength to strength and has grown to become one of the leading public healthcare service providers in the
world.
Alongside this development of HA’s medical services, the HA Convention has grown to become a landmark
annual event on the international healthcare calendar. Attracting leading medical professionals from Hong
Kong and overseas, the Convention provides a platform for clinicians, researchers and allied health experts
to interact and exchange information on a diverse range of medical topics.
The increasing incidence of communicable diseases, ageing population, escalating community expectations
and budgetary constraints are just some of the challenges now faced by healthcare providers. In coming
together to share experiences, ideas and insights, Convention attendees are contributing to the spread and
development of best practices with respect to clinical techniques, inter-disciplinary cooperation, and the
adoption and refinement of effective healthcare service models.
This year’s Convention includes a highly impressive roster of speakers to whom HA is most grateful for
their willingness to share their expertise and advice as part of our common mission of achieving healthcare
excellence.
I would also like to express my great appreciation to Professor Guoqiang WANG, Vice Minister of the
National Health and Family Planning Commission of the People’s Republic of China; the Honourable CY
LEUNG, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region; and Dr KO Wing-man, Secretary
for Food and Health of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, for their unstinting
support and for officiating at the Convention opening ceremony.
I am certain that this year’s HA Convention will prove informative and inspiring for all attendees in their
continuing efforts to enhance well-being and safeguard public health.
Professor John CY LEONG
