Five-star facilities at SLH! ¡@

P atients and healthcare staff alike hope to enjoy a 'five-star' hospital environment. Siu Lam Hospital is the only hospital in Hong Kong providing comprehensive rehabilitation and infirmary services exclusively for adult patients with severe intellectual disabilities. In April, the hospital moved to the Jockey Club Jubilation Hall - a renovated building located between Castle Peak Hospital and Tuen Mun Hospital.

The new hospital building boasts first-class ward facilities, including more ward gardens, a tailor-made ceiling hoist system, and non-slip flooring - creating a comfortable and safe environment for patients and enabling colleagues to carry out their duties more easily and efficiently. In addition, an allied health training centre has been built next to the hospital, which provides over 4,000 square feet for occupational therapists, physiotherapists and prosthetics-orthotics specialists to undertake comprehensive rehabilitation training with patients.

NLTH Phase I will be completed by year-end

I n February, HASLink reported on the construction progress of North Lantau Hospital (NLTH) Phase I. Most of the building's external structure has already been completed. Installation and testing of major systems, such as air-conditioning, medical gas and medical equipment are finished. The construction of Phase I is expected to be completed on schedule by the end of this year.

While the hospital's "hardware" is almost ready, the recruitment of its "software", i.e. staff, is in full swing. The hospital is now hiring staff in various disciplines. If you are interested in taking up new challenges in a new hospital, please keep an eye on HA Vacancy Notification Circulars or browse http://kwc.home/sites/nlth/ for the latest news.

Happy 20th birthday to HKEH!

T his year marks the 20th anniversary of Hong Kong Eye Hospital (HKEH). Brenda Lun, manager of the operating theatre ward, 20 years ago joined the Yau Ma Tei Eye Clinic which subsequently became HKEH. She says, "Each day brings new challenges. My greatest feeling is that today's service is patient-centred, rather than an 'assembly line' approach."

HKEH is sharing its anniversary happiness with patients, staff and the general public through a series of activities and events, including a slogan and logo design competition, health talks, special training initiatives and a carnival.
