On 1 October, a ferry collision near Lamma Island
changed the lives of over 30 families forever. The incident resulted
in more than 100 casualties, with two Hospital Authority nurses
among those lost in the tragedy. On receiving initial reports of
this terrible disaster, the HA immediately activated its emergency
mechanisms, with colleagues from hospitals around Hong Kong working
tirelessly in the race against time to save lives and provide treatment
and support to the injured. In this issue of HASLink, our
Cover Story highlights just a few of the many HA heroes and heroines
who acted with courage, compassion and professionalism on that fateful
night.
Such selfless acts of service define the HA spirit. A group of colleagues from Tuen Mun Hospital recently helped fulfil the last wish of an end-stage cancer patient. They transformed a ward into a wedding 'chapel' that was filled with love as the patient and her fiance exchanged the words "I do". 'Dream of ward wedding comes true' can be read on page 13.
HA Chairman, Anthony Wu, who has served the Authority with drive and dedication for the past eight years, was recently reappointed to his position until next year. Our inperson interview provides an insight into his feelings on his reappointment and his strategic priorities for the year ahead. We also uncover a little-known side of our Chairman. Curious?
