Philosophy

Nursing is an art and a science, characterized by caring, expertise, autonomy, commitment and responsibility. It is a process concerned with promotion, maintenance and restoration of health as well as the alleviation of suffering of individuals in the society. It involves a unique interplay of knowledge, intuitive and critical thinking, as well as compassion and mutual respect for others.

We believe that:

  • Man is a unique, holistic being with individual needs. He/ she has a caring attribute and enters into reciprocal caring relationships that enable one to strive towards health, growth and self-actualization.
  • Each of our clients possesses the right to be informed and be involved in making decision which affects his/ her health and should be treated with dignity and respect.
  • Health is a human right and nurses are concerned with enabling people to maintain an optimal level of wellness through health education and maximization of individual/ family and community resources.
  • Environment is all the internal and external conditions that influence the development and behavior of people. Nurses are concerned with the complexity and uniqueness of the client in enhancing his/ her positive adaptation.
  • Nursing is the delivery of client-centered care through an ongoing problem-solving process of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation.
  • Nursing is a team-work profession and works in collaboration with other health care professionals in the provision of quality health care.
  • Nurses should be accountable to patients/ families, the hospital, the profession, and the society.
  • Nurses should have the responsibility for continual learning to enhance and expand professional knowledge as well as personal development.
