Introduction

Occupational Therapy is an important profession in rehabilitation team. Occupational Therapist makes use of different treatment media such as tailor make splints, assistive devices, therapeutic activities, occupational lifestyle redesign and environmental modifications to promote the recovery of patient's sensation, limbs coordination and functions, perception and cognitive functions, and social-emotional abilities. Aims to achieve independence in self-care, in home living, in work, in leisure activities and to resume community living as well as to enhance Quality of Life.

POH Occupational Therapy Scope of Services

Functional Skills Assessment and Rehabilitation Training

Provision of daily living and community living skills assessment and training, including: self-care, meals preparation, laundry, shopping and use of public transport, etc. so as to facilitate our clients' functional independence and community reintegration.


Provision of Splints and Pressure Garments

Provision of Splints and Pressure Garments

Fabrication and provision of splints and pressure garments to promote healing, relieve pain, prevent joint deformity and hypertrophic scar formation.


Assistive Device Recommendations and Trial

Assistive Device Recommendations and Trial

Educate clients or care givers to use assistive device properly so as to enhance clients' functional independence in feeding, grooming, dressing, toileting, and bathing, etc.


Home Oxygen Therapy

Home Oxygen Therapy

Assess and recommend proper use of home oxygen. Educate clients and their carers to use home oxygen devices properly to improve clients' functions and quality of life.


Pressure Mapping, Seating and Positioning Assessment and Interventions

Pressure Mapping, Seating and Positioning Assessment and Interventions

Assess patients' pressure distribution with the use of pressure mapping device and facilitate pressure sores prevention management by designing proper seating or lying positioning and pressure relieving devices.


Carer Training

Carer Training

Educate carers on proper home care and caring techniques to facilitate clients in self-care activities and home programs. Suitable community support service will be referred.


Home Visit and Community Occupational Therapy

Home Visit and Community Occupational Therapy

Home visits for home environment assessment, home modification recommendation, on-site daily living & community living skills training, on-site carer training and home safety aids and equipment recommendation, etc. to facilitate clients return home safely and encourage community re-integration. Community resources referral for indicated case.

Occupational Lifestyle Redesign

Improve the efficacy of self-management on chronic disease through coaching clients with healthy occupational lifestyle advice.


Educational Training for Individual and Small Group

Educational Training for Individual and Small Group

Provision of educational talks and training to equip clients' disease knowledge, facilitate rehabilitation process and to promote healthy lifestyle.


Cognitive assessment and rehabilitation

Cognitive assessment and rehabilitation

Provision of cognitive assessment and training, home programs and carer training on cognitive aspects. Cognitive Stimulation Therapy group training provide different modes of training for clients with mild cognitive impairment, such as horticulture group.

Assess clients’ individual and environmental factors that contribute to fall. Educate clients and their carers to use proper skills and aids to prevent future accidental fall.

Assess the needs and prescribe suitable wheelchairs for clients. Provide training and educate them how to use and maintain it safely and in their daily lives.


Tele-care service

Tele-care service

Providing patient care through telecommunications such as phone, email and video conferencing. It aims at providing services in a convenient and contact-free way.

Outpatient appointment booking procedures

For new case appointment booking, please approach Occupational Therapy Department located at 1/F, Pok Oi Hospital with original copy of referral.

Saturday, Sunday and Public Holiday No Service

We accept appointment through fax: client may fax the referral to our department for new appointment booking by providing their contact phone number. In addition, clients need to return the original referral to occupational therapy department on the date of appointment registration.
