With volunteer training framework in place in HA, volunteer training courses are organized at both corporate, cluster and hospital levels. As there is a wide variety of direct and indirect patient support services carried out by volunteers in different local settings, the training provided will be organized taking into account operational and service requirements of departments involved.

Volunteers training framework

The core training for volunteers under the training framework comprises the seven courses below:

  • Infection control and prevention
  • Understanding of HA and hospital services
  • Understanding the roles and responsibilities of volunteers; their code of practices
  • Basic knowledge on fire safety
  • Basic knowledge on occupational safety and health in a hospital environment
  • Understanding of data privacy
  • Basic communication skills* (to be offered based on need and service nature of volunteers concerned)
It is mandatory for all volunteers to complete the core training program before providing service. A set of standardized training materials have been developed to guide and facilitate the delivery of core training to volunteers. Moreover, it is necessary for volunteers to attend infection control refresher training course for every 24 months.
