Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Service
The Child & Adolescent Psychiatric Service at Kwai Chung Hospital is delivered by a multidisciplinary team comprising psychiatrists, clinical psychologists, psychiatric nurses, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, speech therapists, dietitians, medical social workers, paediatricians, and Hong Kong Red Cross teachers. We provide comprehensive mental health assessment, diagnosis, and treatment for children and adolescents under 18 years of age. The Child & Adolescent Block adopts a one-stop integrated service model, combining outpatient, day hospital, and inpatient care, with treatment plans tailored to each patient’s individual needs.
Target Recipients
Children and adolescents under 18 (except those under the three-tier school-based emergency mechanism) presenting with:
- Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
- Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
- Specific Learning Difficulties
- Behavioural and emotional problems
- Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
- Eating disorders
- Other child and adolescent mental health issues

Inpatient Service (more details)
Two dedicated wards (one female and one male) provide a safe and therapeutic environment. The multidisciplinary team conducts regular clinical meetings to review patient progress, discuss treatment plans, and formulate individualised recovery programmes.

Specialist Outpatient Service (more details)
- Child and Adolescent Integrated Clinic Located at the Child & Adolescent Integrated Clinic, primarily serving residents of Kowloon West Cluster and part of Kowloon Central Cluster. Upon application for new case appointments, senior psychiatric nurses conduct specialist triage assessment, provide emotional support, parenting guidance, and community resource referrals. Suitable cases may participate in the Occupational Therapy Early Intervention Programme. Following consultation assessment, the medical team will provide medication, psychotherapy, behavioural therapy, and other appropriate interventions according to the individual needs of the case.

Day Hospital Service (more details)
- Child and Adolescent Integrated Day Hospital The multidisciplinary team offers individual or group training programmes for children, adolescents, and caregivers, including emotion regulation, social skills, behavioural management, parenting education, and other developmentally appropriate interventions.

Cross-professional teams are established in participating schools. The Kwai Chung Hospital Child & Adolescent Psychiatric team collaborates closely with school-based educational psychologists, teachers, and social workers to provide on-site support for students with mental health needs.

Child and adolescent psychiatrists and nurses provide consultation and liaison services to paediatric and adolescent in-patients in the hospitals of Kowloon West Cluster.
