Reconstructive Breast Surgeries — the Role of Plastic Surgeons
Ng F
Department of Plastic Surgery, Kwong Wah Hospital, Hong Kong

With increasing acceptance and demand for breast reconstruction after oncological surgery, we are facing a greater variety
of mastectomy defects, ranging from breast conservative surgery to mastectomy.

Working closely with our breast surgeons who have the technique and dedication to improve the situation, we can achieve
higher success rate and better cosmetic outcome for reconstruction of skin sparing mastectomy, areolar sparing mastectomy
and even nipple sparing mastectomy. Besides conventional flap surgery and implant-based reconstruction, we are now
having more surgical methods including perforator flaps and fat grafting for smaller volume replacement. Together with
better techniques of nipple reconstruction and nipple areolar tattooing, we are able to further improve the symmetry of the
reconstructed breast.
