The seasonal influenza vaccination programme will begin on 19 October for HA staff and on 3 November for eligible members of the public.

Dr Derrick Au, Director (Quality & Safety) at HA, is in charge of HA’s influenza vaccination programmes. “Our colleagues always walk extra miles in serving patients. Getting a flu jab is the same as maintaining good hand hygiene and giving blood to protect and help those around us,” he says. He believes education is a crucial element in making annual flu vaccinations a part of the culture at HA.

However, Dr Au emphasises that getting vaccinated isa personal decision and not a mandatory requirement. For HA staff who decide to get a jab, he explains that the Authority will “streamline the process of vaccination”. One possibility under consideration is to allow colleagues to use staff cards, rather than Hong Kong ID card, as personal identification for the time of vaccination.
