Parenting: Coaching and Empowering Parents

The “Parenting: Coaching and Empowering Parents” One-day Workshop organised by the Institute of Mental Health of Castle Peak Hospital was successfully held on 18 January 2019. A total of 120 healthcare and childcare-related professionals participated in the event. We were delighted to have Dr. Rachel POON, a well-known clinical psychologist in Hong Kong, as our speaker. Dr. POON is also the Adjunct Associate Professor from the Department of Psychology, Chinese University of Hong Kong, and Clinical Member and Approved Supervisor of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy.

In the workshop, Dr. POON introduced concepts of parenting and skills in teaching parenting through sharing her valuable clinical experiences and case demonstration. The workshop provided participants an opportunity to gain knowledge about interviewing and establishing rapport with parents, as well as skills in coaching parents to manage their children.
