Introduction

The Physiotherapy Department started its service in Tung Wah Hospital (TWH) since 1967. We strive to provide quality physiotherapy service to clients from Central and Western District through a team of professional and dedicated physiotherapists.

What is Physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy is an essential member of acute care and rehabilitation teams. Physiotherapists are trained and registered professionals to provide assessments, physical diagnosis, and treatments by using physical means like exercise training, manual therapy, electro-physical agents, sound energy, force, ice, heat, light, magnetism and acupuncture, based on medical sciences to achieve therapeutic purposes. Professional advice and therapeutic education for self-care are also given to patients and their caregivers where necessary. The achieved physical and psycho-social benefits can be widely applied for pain relief, restoration of body strength and mobility, improvement in cardiopulmonary condition, functional capacity etc. The objective is to hasten recovery of patients as well as prevention on disease sufferings, body impairments and disabilities. Ultimately, the common goal is to improve patients' quality of life and help them to integrate back to community.
