Mission of department

The Department of Clinical Psychology of TWH was formally established in February 1996. Its main purpose was to provide clinical and health psychology service to the patients. In line with the Hospital Authority and Tung Wah Hospital policies for delivery of quality health care service to the community, and following the tradition of Tung Wah Group of Hospitals, the mission of the Department of Clinical Psychology of TWH can be summarized as follows:

    Roles and Objectives of the Department

 

The Department aims at facilitating TWH to play the strong and supportive role in providing both acute and extended care medical service. The objectives of the Department are as follows:

  • To provide evidence-based psychological service to patients of TWH.

  • To facilitate holistic care of patients along their phases of illnesses, from acute care, extended care, ambulatory care to community care through enhancing their psychological well-being.

  • To integrate psychological (cognitive, emotional and behavioural) principles into the rehabilitation process so as to strengthen and prolong the rehabilitation effects.

    Scope of Service

    Psychological Assessment

Neuropsychological assessment: assessment of neuropsychological or cognitive pathology, functioning and impairments, such as dementia and other cognitive disorders.
Clinical psychological assessment: assessment of mental, emotional and behavioural functioning and impairment, such as mood disorders, anxiety disorders, somatic symptom disorders, adjustment disorders, and other mental health problems.  
Health-related assessment: assessment of health-related psychological components, e.g. emotion, motivation, attitudes and belief systems, family and interpersonal relationships, coping mechanisms, life-style.
