The Hospital

  • Cheshire Home, Shatin is the second home built by the Hong Kong Cheshire Home Foundation.
  • The hospital started operation in March 1991 with management taken over by the Hospital Authority in the same year. It is one of the member hospitals of the New Territories East Cluster (NTEC) under the Hospital Authority.
  • We offer extended care and specialized rehabilitation services to persons with temporary or permanent physical disabilities. We also provide infirmary services to patients referred from the Central Infirmary Waiting List.

Respite Service

Our Home provides short-term residential service to physically disabled adults in order to let the disables and the families plan for their long-term care with sufficient time. We would provide rehabilitation training during admission in order to enhance their self-care ability.

Duration

Maximum period of 6 months.

Services

Personal and nursing care, medical social service, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, dietetic service, and volunteer service, etc.

Application Criteria

  • Severe physically disabled adults who are in need of interim personal and nursing care
  • No persistent psychiatric symptoms or disruptive behaviors or substance abuse habit.
  • No infectious diseases.
  • Suitable for our nursing care level.
  • After the completion of the short-term residential period, the applicant should return to live in the community.

Fee and Charges

Fees will be charged in accordance with government gazettes as $2,370 per month. All personal care items should be purchased by applicant. [Applicants with Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) also need to pay for the hospital fee and not applicable for hospital fee waiving.]

Application Procedure

Referred by Medical Social Workers or social workers from Social Welfare Department (SWD)/ Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs).
