We are honored to invite Prof C. Donald COMBS, Vice President & Dean of the School of Health Professions from Eastern Virginia Medical School, to deliver a visiting lecture to the Faculty and Staff of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital on the updated trends in Simulation Training in Medicine, titled 'Reforming Medical and Health Professions Education in the Age of Artificial Intelligence'.

The first KCC "Speak up for Patient Safety" forum was organized by KCC Q&S, CND and MDSSC in Nov 2015. Regarding the comparable intense pressure and human involvement in both aviation and health care industry, Captain Peter Clemmow who has rich experience in running CRM training to pilots and crew members was invited as key note speaker of the forum. His real stories sharing on human factors driven errors in aircraft has emphasized the importance of CRM training. Furthermore, this forum provided a platform for healthcare professionals to share different ideas on collaboration enhancement between different disciplinary teams in the aspect of crew resource management.

Prof. Jennifer Weller, head of the Centre for Medical and Health Sciences Education, conducted a talk on "Healthcare Simulation Education and Research" in the lunch forum. Prof. Weller shared her expert experience in the latest development in simulation, and also the simulation training program in the University of Auckland.

Prof. Ken Johnson, Director of the Centre for Patient Simulation in the University of Utah Health Sciences Centre, and Prof. Sandy Garden, Associate Professor in the Sleep Wake Research Centre of the Massey University conducted a seminar on “The Application of Simulation Training”. The two professors shared knowledge and skills in how to apply simulation training in a practical way.

Dr. Donald Combs, the Vice President and Dean of the School of Health Professions at Eastern Virginia Medical School delivered a talk on “Simulation Application in Medical and Health Professions Education” to the staff in KCC. The talk focused on the application of new technology and methodology on simulation-based training in healthcare as well as the importance of credentialing and collaboration with different industries.

Captain Norman Macleod, Human Factors Manager at Cathay Pacific, specialized in Human Factors and CRM training. Captain Macleod has involved in all aspects of pilot recruitment and training for over 40 years. He shared his valuable CRM training experiences with the participants, and paved a good platform for knowledge exchange during the Q&A session.
Dr. Ho Lap Yin, Director of MDSSC also delivered a talk “the way forward of CRM” and reinforced the importance of CRM training in healthcare.

MSR, the Israel Center for Medical Simulation is a world leader in simulation-based medical education and patient safety training. Dr. Amitai Ziv, Founder and Director of MSR, gave a presentation on ”the role of simulation training in modern health care and practical simulation program”. The information was useful and practical, especially for the development of new training programs.
