A three-days course by the Monash University for colleagues from different clinical areas and who are enthusiastic in clinical education or have been running departmental training were recruited. The objectives of this training include not only fundamental simulation education skills such as setting objective and design of scenario flow, but also to apply standardized patients to facilitate learning outcomes of the training.

The two-days course by the Monish University was aimed to provide a platform for practicing simulation educators to exchange their teaching experiences locally and with renowned overseas simulation experts. Through different learning activities such as simulation scenario design and to be debriefed for their debriefing techniques, our experienced simulation educators can further consolidate their skills and to reflect their own teaching.

A two-day research workshop on “From Idea to Protocol” organized by DIMS, was held in MDSSC in 3-4December, 2013. All participants were simulation trainers with the interest in conducting research on simulation training in healthcare. This workshop provided an overview of research topics about simulation in healthcare, as well as how to formulate and refine ideas to a research study. Moreover, the training also covered strategy of developing research questions and submitting research publications.

Crew-Resource Management (CRM) is a training methodology which equips frontline professionals with the cognitive and interpersonal skills needed for them to effectively manage a team-based, high-risk activity. Main principles include effective team work, communication, team briefing and debriefing, situational awareness, decision making and leadership…etc.
The two-day CRM course conducted by the international training institute Safer Healthcare was organized for the training of CRM instructors. Through team-based training in a simulated environment, participants were enhanced with teamwork and communication skills, and were able to reflect and review on their experiences, especially in the debriefing session..

MSR, the Israel Center for Medical Simulation is a world leader in simulation-based medical education and patient safety training. MDSSC co-organized the Train-the-Trainer Course for simulation instructors with the Institute of Advanced Nursing Studies (IANS), Hospital Authority, Central Nursing Division (CND), and Quality and Safety Department (Q&S).
The program was offered to the healthcare providers, including medical, nursing and allied health professionals in Kowloon Central Cluster. Aim of the program was to provide training on simulation-based education with special focus on communication strategies in clinical setting for healthcare professionals. These included basic communication skills, breaking bad news, patient and family counseling techniques, mentorship in conducting communication training and training professional actors to portray clinician interaction with patients and relatives.

Simulation experts from WISER conducted a three-day course to the healthcare professionals in KCC with the interest in simulation training. Key components of the course included successful use of simulation in training, development of scenarios and strategy, and debriefing in a constructive and educationally sound manner. The interactive workshop allowed participants to design scenarios, practice debriefing techniques, and team learning through evaluation and feedbacks.
