Update on Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus Aureus Cases

Regarding the announcement earlier that some babies in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and Special Care Baby Unit were tested positive for Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), the spokesperson of Prince of Wales Hospital made the following update today (17 February):

In accordance with the prevailing guidelines, screening of patients in the respective wards has been performed. One more baby boy, aged seven days, was confirmed today to be MRSA carrier without clinical symptoms. He is now treated under isolation with stable condition.

The case has been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection. The hospital has enhanced infection control measures and will continue to closely monitor the situation.
