------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Regarding the announcement earlier that some babies in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and Special Care Baby Unit were tested positive for Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), the spokesperson of Prince of Wales Hospital made the following update today (18 February):

In accordance with the prevailing guidelines, screening of patients in the respective wards has been performed. One more baby boy (aged 11 days) and one more baby girl (aged 9 days) were confirmed today to be MRSA carriers without clinical symptoms. They were discharged earlier.

The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority Head Office and the Centre for Health Protection. The hospital has enhanced infection control measures and will continue to closely monitor the situation.
