Expectant mothers or their relatives are required to bring along their HK Identity Card (or a valid identification document), referral letter issued by a local registered medical practitioner / Chinese medicine practitioner / Maternal and Child Health Centre in the last three months, and a proof of residential address dated within the last six months to a Specialist Out-patient Clinic (Obstetrics) for appointment booking.

Non-local expectant mothers, whose husbands are Hong Kong civil servants or Hospital Authority staff members, should present with their valid immigration permits, or staying passes, and original copies of the marriage certificates, and the husbandˇ¦s identity cards and staff ID cards. Non-local expectant mothers need to book appointments in person.

Prenatal examinations

The Hospital Authority prenatal screening for Down Syndrome only accepts local expectant mothers who have made a delivery booking with the Prince of Wales Hospital. Proof of residential address issued within the past 6 months, such as water or electricity bill, is required for appointment booking. In order to ensure the screening test is performed at the optimal gestation, any woman who has irregular menstrual cycle or is unsure about the date of the last menstrual period is advised to go to private sector for dating scan first. If the expected date of delivery by ultrasound is different from that of the last menstrual period for more than 7 days, please attend the O&G counter to change your appointment as soon as possible. If the gestation is not suitable on the date of appointment, the screening test could not be performed. Due to limited quota, no further appointment will be rearranged. For enquiries, please call our voice mail at 3505 2470.

The Chinese University of Hong Kong also provides various prenatal examinations charging private fees, such as Down Syndrome baby screening test, dating scan, fetal morphology scan, and NIPT (Non invasive prenatal test). For enquiries, please call 3505 4219, or visit www.fetalmedicine.hk for online booking.
