Department profile

We provide a variety of rehabilitation services for different clinical specialties in the hospital including medical, orthopaedic, surgical, neurosurgical and A&E departments. We serve inpatients, discharged patients, outpatients and the community.

We engage our patients through therapeutic activities to restore their maximum functions and independence at home, work and daily activities.

Scope of service includes ADL & IADL assessment and training; assistive device and wheelchair prescription, pre-discharge training and loan service to facilitate timely and safe discharge; cognitive and perceptual assessment and training; splintage and pressure garment; remedial activities for mobilization and strengthening of hands, upper and lower limbs; home modification and environmental adaptation; developmental and play service; work assessment and work rehabilitation service; adaptive and facilitation techniques; psychological and adjustment management.

Points to note for patients

New case registration has to be made in person, by mail or by fax as soon as possible from the date of referral. The referral letter will be invalid after three months. Please seek medical advice from your referring doctor / clinic if your condition deteriorates while waiting for your first appointment.

Patients or relatives should bring doctor's original referral letter and the patient's Hong Kong Identity Card or copy to the Department of Occupational Therapy during office hours to book appointment.

Patients who use mail or fax for making appointment should present the doctor’s original referral letter and the patient's Hong Kong Identity Card or copy to the Department of Occupational Therapy on the first appointment.

Patients may have to pay for items such as splint, pressure garment and assistive devices. Details of charges are available from the department.
