Intensive Care Unit

Department profile

The ICU is a 25-bed, multidisciplinary and university-based unit. The 2-floor design enables the conversion of one floor into a designated area for infectious patients during pandemic while another floor can continue to provide normal service.

We provide medical and surgical intensive care for adult patients and children from 12 years old. We are also the regional referral centre for cardiac surgical, trauma, burns, neurosurgical patients and those requiring Extra-Corporeal Membranous Oxygenation (ECMO) therapy.

Being affiliated with the CUHK, our unit undertakes teaching and research and is a training centre for medical and nursing specialists in intensive care medicine. The ICU collectively produces around 15 to 20 scientific and educational publications per year.

Professionalism is the attribute of our staff. We adopt standardized and specialized nursing procedures to ensure that care is administered by the appropriate person with recognized knowledge and skills. Evidence-based practices also ensure effective and quality care.
