Accident and Emergency Service

1. Can patients cancel their registration and request a refund if they realise the waiting time is too long after assessment at the triage station?

Triage is one of the important steps in the provision of Accident and Emergency Service. Patients will have to pay the Accident and Emergency Service fee if they decide not to receive treatment by a doctor after going through triage.

General Outpatient Clinic

1. How to make an appointment for consultation at the General Outpatient Clinic?
Patients can call 3157 0125 or use "Book GOPC" function in HA's one-stop mobile app "HA GO" any time to make an appointment for consultation at the General Outpatient Clinic at the earliest time slot available in the next 24 hours. For those who have never registered or used services in HA, they may bring original identity document to make registration in person at SOPD Appointment Office on G/F or GOPD Registry on 1/F, Tsui Tsin Tong Outpatient Building. Patients who successfully make an appointment should collect a numbered ticket at the Automatic Registration System of the General Outpatient Clinic 15 minutes before their time of appointment.

2. What are the arrangements for General Outpatient Clinic services when the Black Rainstorm Warning or Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal 8 or above is issued by the Hong Kong Observatory?
Services at the clinic will be suspended when the Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal 8 or above is in effect, and when the Black Rainstorm Warning is issued before the start of clinic hours. Clinic services will continue as normal until the end of the clinic session if the Black Rainstorm Warning is issued during clinic hours. Please refer to the Hospital Authority announcements broadcast via radio and television stations on service arrangements after cancellation of the relevant warning signals.

3. What should I do if I am unable to attend consultation at the clinic due to the Black Rainstorm Warning or Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal 8 or above?
Patients can make another appointment for consultation via the following channels:
(1) Patients who made their appointment via the telephone appointment system should call 3157 0125 to make another appointment for consultation;
(2) Patients who have follow-up appointment booked by the doctor / GOPD Registry can bring along the appointment slip to make a new booking within a week at GOPD Registry.
Patients can also call 3517 2981 to make enquiries during this period.

Specialist Outpatient Service

1. Specialist Outpatient Service overview
The Specialist Outpatient Clinic is located on 2/F and 3/F, Tsui Tsin Tong Outpatient Building, and provides specialist medical services for patients referred by Hospital Authority General Outpatient Clinics or clinics in the private sectors. Services provided include Otorhinolaryngology (Ear, Nose and Throat), Medicine and Geriatrics, Neurosurgery, Orthopaedics and Traumatology, Paediatrics & Adolescent and Surgery.

2. How to make an appointment for consultation at the Specialist Outpatient Clinic?
Patient should produce a referral letter (valid for a period of three months from the date of issue), identity card or birth certificate (for children under 11 years of age) and address information document for appointment booking. Referral letter will be screened by clinic doctor and appointment would be arranged according to medical conditions. Patient will be received appointment slip by mail and is requested to attend our clinic according to the scheduled appointment. Patients should collect a numbered ticket at the Specialist Outpatient Intelligence Queuing Management System on G/F 15 minutes before the time of their appointment on the date as specified on their appointment slip, and proceed to the waiting room as instructed.

3. What should new patients do if they are unable to attend consultation on the date of their appointment?
Patients who would like to reschedule their appointment to another date or time can do so before the date of their original appointment by presenting their original appointment slip to the SOPD Appointment Office on G/F, Tsui Tsin Tong Outpatient Building or by calling 2242 6624. If patients cannot or did not attend the consultation as scheduled, the referral letter will be disposed of. They are required to present a valid referral letter (valid for a period of three months from the date of issue), identification document and address information document to our SOPD Appointment Office for booking.

4. What are the procedures for old patients who would like to schedule a new appointment for follow-up consultation at the Specialist Outpatient Clinic?
If patients are unable to attend the scheduled consultation, they can re-book a new appointment by presenting their original appointment slip to SOPD Appointment Office on G/F, Tsui Tsin Tong Outpatient Building or by calling 2242 6624.

For a patient who has not attended our Specialist Outpatient Clinic / missed the original appointment for one year or more, booking for appointment will be handled as new case. The patient has to present a valid referral letter (valid for a period of three months from the date of issue), identification document and address information document to our SOPD Appointment Office for booking.

Patients can re-book another appointment for consultation by presenting their appointment slip to the SOPD Appointment Office within one week of cancellation of the Black Rainstorm Warning or Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal.

Maternity Clinic

1. How to make an appointment for consultation at the Maternity Clinic?
Registration and Appointment for Prenatal Assessment
The pregnant woman or her relative should present the Hong Kong Identity Card/travel document (for non-permanent residents of Hong Kong) of the pregnant woman together with a referral letter issued within the last three months by a local registered doctor/Chinese medicine practitioner/Maternal and Child Health Centre confirming pregnancy, or a referral letter issued by a local registered doctor/Chinese medicine practitioner together with proof of residence valid within the last six months, to the Maternity Clinic for registration and appointment.

2. How to make an appointment for consultation at the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Clinic?
The patient or her relative should present the Hong Kong Identity Card/travel document (for non-permanent residents of Hong Kong) of the patient together with a referral letter issued within the last three months by a local registered doctor, to the Maternity Clinic for registration and appointment.

Medical Report and Sick Leave Certification Application

1. How can patients apply for a sick leave certificate?
Patients should make the request to the attending doctor or nurse prior to discharge from hospital or during consultation. The attending doctor will issue a sick leave certificate to such patients.

2. What are the procedures for the application of additional or back-dated sick leave certificates after hospital discharge or consultation?
The first sick leave certificate is issued free of charge. Additional sick leave certificates can be issued at a fee of HKD 230 each. Patients who need additional or back-dated sick leave certificates after the date of consultation can make the application in person at the hospital’s Medical Report Office during office hours. Applications can also be made in writing and submitted by mail. In such cases, the Medical Report Office will mail the sick leave certificate to patients once the relevant procedures are completed.

3. What supporting documents should patients provide for the application of additional or back-dated sick leave certificates?
Patients should make an application in writing and provide original copies or certified true copies of their personal identity document. For patients below 18 years of age, applications should be submitted in writing and signed by the applicants’ parents or legal guardians. Parents/legal guardians who sign the application forms for such patients should present original copies of their own personal identity documents or provide certified true copies when submitting the applications. Applications submitted by patients’ family members should be supported by authorisation letters signed by the patients, together with certified true copies of the patients’ personal identity documents. In such cases, family members submitting the applications should present original copies of their own personal identity documents or submit certified true copies for verification by the hospital.

4. Is it possible to request for an additional sick leave certificate during consultation at an Outpatient Clinic or the Accident and Emergency Department?
Doctors will consider the need of individual patients. However, in general, only one sick leave certificate is issued. Patients may apply for additional sick leave certificates at a fee of HKD 230 per certificate.
