  1. Being one of the Hong Kong West Cluster hospitals, TWH works closely with QMH which is a teaching hospital of the medical faculty of the Hong Kong University as well as a tertiary referral centre. TWH is by far the largest hospital in the cluster in the provision of rehabilitation convalescent support to QMH.
  2. TWH is the Clusterˇ¦s day surgery centre and is continuously developing day surgery and same day surgery service. In the 2012/13 report on Surgical Outcomes Monitoring and Improvement Program (SOMIP), TWH was rated as one of the best HA Hospitals for elective operation.
  3. Both General and Specialist Out-patient Services are provided at TWH. The General Out-Patient Service is provided to patients free of charge with the costs borne by TWGHs. Management of General Out-Patient Service is under the Cluster Family Medicine and Primary Healthcare Department.
  4. To work towards a seamless health care system, the following Day Service Centres are established in TWH to provide discharged patients with ambulatory support :
    • Day Rehabilitation Centre - provide integrated rehabilitation service through multi-disciplinary approach; organize community outreach teams to provide educational programmes to both the community and patient support groups
    • Cardiac Rehabilitation & Prevention Centre - first of its kind in Hong Kong in providing comprehensive cardiac rehabilitation programmes
    • Geriatric Day Centre - provide comprehensive geriatric services for the discharged elderly patients living in the Central and Western District
    • Electro Diagnostic Unit - provide assessment to Cardiac and Neurosurgical patients
    • Diabetic Mellitus Counseling Centre and Bone Density Assessment Centre - provide ancillary support to the Dr. Lee Iu Cheung Memorial Renal Centre

  5. With the generous donation from a donor, a Dr. Lee Iu Cheung Renal Centre was set up and a Renal Research Fund was established in early 2008. The Renal Research Fund encourages research in renal diseases to help improve patientsˇ¦ health.

  6. The Hung Chao Hong Integrated Centre for Breast Diseases is equipped with the most advanced diagnostic system for the professional team to achieve accurate and efficient diagnosis for breast diseases. The Centre provides a one-stop breast care service, using multidisciplinary approach to manage breast disease. It is also the first of its kind in public hospitals in providing screening and counseling to high risk individuals and families with hereditary causes to help them prevent from developing breast cancer and related cancers.

  7. To provide a full range of Ear Nose & Throat (ENT) ambulatory services to the public, the ENT Centre provides otolology, audiology, rhinology, voice & vestibular assessment, laryngology, rhinology, dizziness rehabilitation and education training to both patients and staff.

  8. TWH pilots Integrated Chinese and Western Medicine with the Chinese Medicine practitioners of TWGHs. The programme is run at the TWGHs Sophia Wang Integrated Chinese and Western Medicine Treatment Centre. There are 3 in-patient beds, one multi-purpose treatment room and one consultation room. Besides, TWH arranges Chinese Medicine practitioners to provide acupuncture service for infirmary and stroke inpatients. Integrated Chinese and Western Medicine Renal Clinic, and Integrated Chinese and Western Medicine Clinic for Constipation are set up in the hospital.

  9. The Geriatric Urology Centre offers one-stop diagnostic and healing services to patients. The arrangement reduces patientsˇ¦ waiting time for consultation and provides them with earlier treatment.
  10. The hospital plays an active role in both undergraduate and postgraduate education. Each year, medical and nursing students are scheduled to have clinical attachments in TWH. In addition, university students of physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, clinical psychology and radiography are also attached to TWH for internship.
  11. TWH actively recruits volunteers to participate in various patient services, promote community partnership to work closely with local community, District Council, government departments as well as other non-government organizations.
