Colleagues encouraged to shoot for energy saving excellence
Keeping cool in Hong Kong’s stifling summer heat can be a costly business. If you’re looking for ways to reduce electricity bills and cut back on energy consumption, the joint initiative being run by the Hospital Authority and CLP Power Hong Kong Limited may provide some useful tips. From May to July this year, the Energy Saving Promotion Programme 2015 is promoting awareness about energy conservation to staff at HA Head Office and various cluster hospitals through a series of educational talks and fun games.
Among the many activities being organised, the ‘Energy Saving Shooter’ game encourages colleagues to test their knowledge and skills by shooting at LED screen targets containing energy saving tips with a light gun, while an online energy assessment tool enables colleagues to evaluate their energy consumption habits at home and generate tailor-made energy saving advice. Examples of the easy-to-implement advice include disconnecting electrical chargers once charging has finished and drawing blinds to keep out strong sunlight, which can reduce the cooling effect of air conditioners.
Other environmentally friendly initiatives under the Programme include inviting hospitals to join the Power Saving Action in Hospitals campaign, under which the percentage change in electricity consumption at individual hospitals between July – August 2014 and July – August 2015 will be compared to the percentage change in electricity consumption between July – August 2013 and July – August 2014. Hospitals that achieve energy-saving excellence will be commended so make sure you play a part in helping your hospital win recognition!
