New Human Resources
Chief Manager believes HR should be fun

Staff forums held at the Hospital Authority’s Head Office shouldn’t purely focus on informing colleagues on what's going, they should also be occasions for staff engagement. This is the philosophy of Katherine Shiu, who was promoted to the position of Chief Manager (Human Resources) in the Human Resources Division in May. “My mind is constantly racing with ideas and possibilities for how to make our forums lively, interesting and enjoyable for colleagues,” she says.

Katherine has worked in HA’s Human Resources Division for over 20 years, but was previously a secondary school teacher in World History and English, and holds a master’s degree in gifted education. After returning to Hong Kong from Canada where she earned her postgraduate degree, she saw a recruitment advertisement for a position in the Authority’s training and development team. Reasoning that training employs many of the skills used in teaching, she applied for the post and has been with HA ever since.

In her new capacity, she will focus on two major initiatives: mapping the strategy and implementation plan for a HA-wide staff satisfaction survey; and developing a mobile app that provide colleagues with useful information such as staff shopping discounts, job vacancies and MPF updates.醫院管理局
