An appreciative patient has been showering praise on colleagues at Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH) among the Indonesian-Chinese community.

Chan Sau-lan wrote an article in an Indonesian-Chinese newspaper to share the story of how PMH doctors and nurses saved her life.

Sau-lan was admitted to PMH in April last year because she was suffering with lymphoma. After months of dedicated care by staff at PMH’s Intensive Care Unit and haematology, she was then transferred for rehabilitation treatment before being discharged in early September. Her article gives great credit to our PMH colleagues for their care and their selfless efforts in helping her deal with a serious medical condition.

Dr Kong Tak-kwan, Consultant Geriatrician in the Department of Medicine & Geriatrics at PMH, says Sau-lan was a model patient during her hospitalisation. “She experienced complications from the lymphoma and chemotherapy, and had to overcome weakness of her legs due to nerve damage after a prolonged period of bed rest,” he says. “But she demonstrated a remarkably strong will and always diligently followed the suggestions and directions of our staff, which kept her rehabilitation training on schedule.”

It is a good example demonstrating the importance of building trust between patients and healthcare professionals.醫院管理局
