QEH’s cookbook wins global recognition

I have some great news that I’ve been bursting to share with HASLink readers. Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) has scooped a prestigious international award in the publishing world! The hospital’s book of recipes for mothers-to-be recently picked up third prize in the ‘Best Diet Cookbook’ category at the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards 2015!

HASLink should be commended for sniffing out the delights of Simple and Healthy Recipes for Mothers-to-be at an early stage. The book not only contains around 50 recipes, but also includes advice and tips about prenatal and postnatal exercise, nursing, caring for newborns, emotional support and more.

The book draws on the collective wisdom and experience of obstetric and paediatric specialists, nurses, dietitians and Chinese medicine practitioners, and was compiled following more than six months of interviews, research and – on occasion – debate! For example, pork bone soup with papaya and dry octopus is considered a traditional therapeutic postnatal dish. But pork bone, which contains high fat, does not fit into standard nutritional principles adhered to by dietitians from the conventional medicine tradition. After some friendly negotiation over the issue, the two sides reached a compromise by substituting pork bone for pork shank. 醫院管理局
