  Kowloon West Cluster Designated International Safe Workplace
 

On 31 May 2011, HA's Kowloon West Cluster (KWC) received a global designation from the World Health Organisation (WHO) as the world's first member of the International Safe Workplace Program (ISWP), established under the WHO Safe Community framework. Professor Leif Svanstrom, Chairman of WHO Collaborating Centre on Community Safety Promotion, officiated the ceremony and presented the designation certificate to Mr Anthony Wu, Chairman of HA; Dr P Y Leung, CE of HA and Dr Nancy Tung, CCE of KWC. Other officiating guests included Mr W H Cheuk, JP, Commissioner of Labour and Mr K M Lee, GBS, JP, Chairman of the OSH Council.

At the Ceremony, Mr Wu congratulated KWC and mentioned that HA has all along accorded utmost importance to protect the safety and health of our colleagues. It unrelentingly reviewed and improved the safety governance and practices at all levels and continuously drives for nourishing a safety culture and safe work environment for all our staff.

Dr Nancy Tung stated that the designation at KWC was not a full stop in our efforts. Instead, it unfolds a new page in our work, setting higher standards and requires all of us to continue to promote the safety culture and practices which we have successfully built up in workplace. The Ceremony was full of cheers and excitements when all KWC HCEs and their core team members received the designation certificates from Dr P Y Leung.





 
 
  United Christian Hospital wins two OSHC awards
 

On the World Day for Safety and Health at Work this year (28 April 2011), United Christian Hospital (UCH) staff were awarded two honours in the 3rd Outstanding Employees in Occupational Safety and Health Award Scheme organised by the Occupational Safety and Health Council (OSHC). Ms Yeung Ka-man, registered nurse of SOPD and Mr Wong Ying-hon, nursing officer of OR were awarded Gold and Silver prizes respectively. In the ceremony, Mr Matthew Cheung, Secretary for Labour and Welfare recognised their outstanding efforts in creating a safe and healthy work environment.

This is the third consecutive year that Kowloon East Cluster (KEC) was recognised by OSHC for its impressive performance, raising the bar of occupational safety in the network. Dr Joseph Lui, Cluster Chief Executive of Kowloon East said, "We have keen concerns about the occupational safety of colleagues. Our management always reminds colleagues of the importance of keeping the work place safe, and we have also signed the OSH policy statement to ensure all colleagues are working in a safe environment."
