r Lam Ming-fai oversees department operations and makes a special effort to extend care to patients and their families. His contributions include supervising operations and managing the mortuary in Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
He first joined as mortuary officer in 1997, at a time when facilities and storage environments were
underdeveloped, staff morale low and professionalism and quality merely an afterthought. Mr Lam took it upon himself to improve the situation through several mortuary renovation and expansion projects at Queen Elizabeth Hospital and by providing technical support to other mortuaries in the Kowloon Central Cluster.
Mr Lam helped to develop bereavement services by enhancing the design of the body viewing area for relatives of the deceased. In addition, he boosted the morale of mortuary staff by organising social gatherings to create a positive work environment.
His work philosophy is: "Work with heart. Be meticulous. Take criticism as driving force and appreciation as reward." Mr Lam firmly believes that one should not merely fulfill job duties, but enjoy doing so.
