he Haemopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation (HSCT) Centre at Queen Mary Hospital is the first quaternary referral centre of its kind in Hong Kong. Representing the Hospital Authority in International Marrow Donor Registry worldwide, the globally renowned centre receives referrals from mainland China, Taiwan, Japan, European Countries and the US.
HSCT requires sophisticated marrow matching and treatment, involving intensive checks and meticulous coordination of donors and recipients. Comprised of doctors, nurses, allied health and support staff, the team provides services of international standard.
Patients and their families receive education and constant communication throughout each stage of the transplant. The team creates a platform for bone marrow transplantation patients to support one another by sharing their feelings and experiences. As HSCT patients are extremely vulnerable and prone to infection, the team upholds stringent infection control practices and offers special meal services.
