n 1997, United Christian Hospital (UCH) pioneered the treatment of cleft deformity in children with the formation of the CLAPS Multidisciplinary Team of specialists. The team provides a one-stop solution with innovative surgical skills, nasoalveolar molding (NAM), video-nasoendoscopy and distraction osteogenesis, to the same standard as the world's most renowned centres.
Through research and academic development, the team educates both medical professionals and the public. In 2010, the Hospital Authority recognised the team as a regional centre for the management of severe cleft deformities in children.
The CLAPS team is a prime example of teamwork, interdisciplinary collaboration and innovation for complicated conditions. They serve patients with love, care and excellence, encapsulating the Hospital Authority's positive ethos.
