  Management 101 training for frontline managers

Frontline managers play important roles in every organisation. Following the recent launch of the HA's new service culture — which has "professional service" as one of the values — the Head Office Human Resources's Training and Development team has introduced the Management 101 training programme. This has been specially designed to equip all our colleagues who have been appointed to the ranks of Associate Consultant, Advanced Practice Nurse, Therapist I, Hospital Administrator I, Executive Officer I or their equivalent since 1 January 2008 with the skills and mindsets they need to meet the challenges ahead of them.

Its specific objectives are to:

Inspire participants with proactive attitudes during their transition to becoming middle-level management staff;

Enhance their knowledge, skills and competence in managing themselves, their teams and their operating tasks; and

Facilitate their acquisition of practical skills and tools for managing the performance of their staff.

The programme consists of 11 half-day modules. Six of these are core modules and five are electives. It is conducted in a mixture of modes, i.e. seminars, workshops and e-learning courseware, in order to meet the different learning needs of individual participants (see right-hand diagram for details). Participants are expected to complete all the core modules and two of the electives within 24 months.¡@

More than 1,500 management colleagues are eligible to take part. The Training and Development Team will send enrolment invitations in batches via Cluster human resources departments. We look forward to the enthusiastic and fruitful participation of all our new leaders in this valuable programme!
